Arizona
Arizona became an imperative choice for expansion due to its unique Latino cultural heritage and the vitriolic anti-immigrant attacks felt everyday by Arizonans. Democracia Ahora saw great civic engagement potential in the state, and in 2006, began operations in Tucson and Pima County under the local leadership of Arizona State Director Alonzo Morado.
Our field experience in Arizona has demonstrated a need to address a number of issues, specifically immigration, census, redistricting, education and the environment.
Democracia Ahora AZ has been working on repealing SB1070, we are working with a wide range of groups to make sure we can stop the implementation of SB 1070. We are protesting and have joined the call to boycott AZ and the businesses that harbor the misguided elected officials that have enacted SB 1070 and other anti Latino/anti Immigrant legislation. We are also busy registering voters; so that our Latino community can self determine what type of state they want to live in.
