Today we learned that we are on the road to Comprehensive Immigration Reform. Just hours ago, a broad coalition of legislators took the first steps toward passing comprehensive immigration reform in 2010. Representatives of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, The Congressional Asian and Pacific Americans Caucus, the Congressional Black Caucus, and Congressional Progressive Caucus joined Congressman Luis Gutierrez, to introduce the “Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America’s Security and Prosperity Act of 2009” (CIR A.S.A.P.) in the House of Representatives.
You were a big part of making this happen. Immigration wasn’t the only issue to drive us to the polls, but it is and was an issue of unique importance to our communities. We showed up, we voted, and now we know that Congress got the message: America needs real immigration reform. CIR A.S.A.P. reflects the momentum for action on practical immigration reform that will enhance our security, protect workers, keep families together, and demonstrate respect for our history as a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants.
